The Monopsis genus consists of 16 species, all of which are indigenous to South Africa where they can be found from Namaqualand to the southern Cape, east to KwaZulu-Natal and north to Limpopo.
Monopsis debilis is a slender, erect or sprawling annual, herb up to 15cm in height. From early summer to autumn it bears masses of stunning midnight blue-purple flowers. This neat and compact annual will happily grow in sandy peaty or clayey soils and is well suited to hanging baskets, patio containers and bedding schemes. Synonyms include Monopsis conspicua, Monopsis debilis var. conspicua and Monopsis simplex var. conspicua.
