Aloiampelos (combination of ‘Aloe’ and ‘ampelos’=vine or creeper), formerly Aloe ser. Macrifoliae (the climbing-aloes) is a genus of succulent plants in the subfamily Asphodeloideae, comprising seven species found in Southern Africa. They are typically multi-branched climbing or sprawling shrubs, with long spindly stems and a large woody base on the ground.
Aloiampelos striatula is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape and Free State Provinces. It is synonymously known as Aloe striatula, Aloe aurantiaca, Aloe cascadensis and Aloe macowanii. This adaptable species grows to 1.2 meters tall. This is a shrubby species with shiny dark green leaves. During early summer it bears orange to yellow bird attracting flowers.
