Caesia is a genus of herbaceous plants in the family Asphodelaceae, subfamily Hemerocallidoideae, native to Australia, New Guinea, Madagascar and Southern Africa. The mostly 3-lobed seed capsules contain pear shaped seeds with a small white aril. The South African species can be easily mistaken for Chlorophytum species, but that genus has seeds that are angular or flattened. Ants disperse the seeds of Caesia spp.

Caesia contorta, synonymously known as Anthericum brevifolium, Anthericum contortum, Bulbine brevifolia, Bulbinella brevifolia, Bulbinella brevifolia, Caesia eckloniana, Caesia scilliflora or Caesia thunbergii and commonly known as Bloutjienks is a South African endemic species found in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape Provinces. This species is widespread across southern South Africa, where it occurs from the Cederberg southwards to the Cape Peninsula, and eastwards to Port Edward on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
