Aloidendron is a genus of succulent plants in the subfamily Asphodeloideae. It was split off from the much larger genus Aloe in 2013. Although aloes are most often included in rockeries, their application in horticulture is not limited to this feature and they can be used in almost any setting and in conjunction with most common garden plants. Their natural adaptation to harsh and often arid climates makes aloes outstanding subjects for the water wise garden.
Aloidendron ramosissimum, previously known as Aloe ramosissima and commonly known as Maiden’s Quiver Tree, is a slow growing tree (shrub) type aloe known for its many branches and smooth, white stems, and without a doubt the most profusely branched of all aloes. This South African indigenous species will form a succulent bush up to 1.2m to 1.8m tall and wide. Other than this low branching habit and usually smaller leaf size, it is virtually identical to Aloidendron dichotomum, and some consider it a subspecies of Aloidendron dichotomum. It eventually forms large mounds.
