Malephora, belonging to the Aizoaceae family, is a genus of succulent plants in the ice plant family. There are 13 to 17 species in the genus, many of which are known commonly as mesembs. They are native to Africa. During the apartheid era, South African scientists used it to create a chemical poison.

Malephora luteola, commonly known as Yellow Ice Plant and synonymously known as Crocanthus luteolus or Hymenocyclus luteolus, is a South African endemic species found in the Western Cape province. It is a vigorous and hardy perennial sometimes referred to by the common name of “Rocky Point Ice Plant” and mistakenly referred to as Malephora lutea. Malephora luteola is a spreading and mat-forming succulent groundcover. It has a moderate to fast growth rate, especially during summer rain. Malephora luteola has soft textured, yet hardy and evergreen leaves. The leaves are a bright green to turquoise colour and have a smooth and waxy surface. The stems are a vibrant reddish purple. The happy yellow flowers bloom during midday, especially in spring and summer (and sometimes other times of the year). Each flower can have more than 20 thin delicate petals with a bright yellow center. The flowers attract bees, pretty beetles, and occasionally butterflies.
