Suregada is a plant genus of the family Euphorbiaceae, first described as a genus in 1803. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, China, Southeast Asia, Australia, and certain oceanic islands.
Suregada zanzibariensis commonly known as Sand Canary-berry in English and Sand-kanariebessie in Afrikaans is a South African indigenous species from the KwaZulu-Natal Province. It is synonymously known as Gelonium serratum and Gelonium zanzibariense. Suregada zanzibariensis grows into a shrub or small tree of up to 5 meters tall. It has horizontal branches and glossy green leaves with toothed margins and covered in raised glands. From spring to summer it bears creamy green flowers which are followed by three-lobed pale brown woody seed capsules with orange fruits. It resembles a citrus tree.
